Hello everyone, we hope you're having a great day. We are the JNK Korea Global Total Service Team.
Have you ever seen an expat licensed real estate agent while looking for a house in Korea? Well, we haven't. This might be because the real estate license exam in Korea is challenging even for Koreans, and it's even tougher for expats who have to study in a second or third language.
But does this mean expats can't work in real estate in Korea at all? The answer is "Yes, you can."
How is it possible without a license? Because there is a job called "real estate assistant." Licensed real estate agents in Korea can have either a licensed associate agent or a real estate assistant. The latter can assist with simple tasks excluding direct brokerage activities without a license. However, in reality, many real estate offices let assistants handle parts of the job like house tours, excluding the actual contract. They typically earn about 50% of the brokerage fee upon successfully closing a deal through a licensed agent.
So, can expats do it? As mentioned earlier, yes, they can. The Korean Real Estate Agent Act does not prohibit expats from working in real estate. As long as you have proof of identity (like an ARC) and a 'criminal record certificate' from your home country, you can work.
Expat real estate assistants are invaluable assets to agencies like ours that mainly serve the expat community in Korea. We will continue to provide more useful information. Thank you.
